Bengaluru: A special court for cases registered under Pocso Act recently found a 29-year-old man guilty of raping a 17-year-old in her house in 2022. He was sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 40,000.
The convict, P Kevin of Arasu Colony, Jayanagar, was close to the girl's mother, who worked as a nurse in a private hospital. The girl lived in a hostel and attended college. She had come to visit her mother when the accused befriended her and sexually abused her.
Public prosecutor Geeta Gorawar said the incident came to light when the girl complained of stomach ache and her mother took her to a private hospital. The girl was found pregnant. Owing to medical risk, she underwent an abortion, and her mother filed a police complaint in the third week of July 2022.
Based on the complaint, police sent the foetal samples for a DNA test, and the reports confirmed that the accused, Kevin, had raped the girl. Police arrested Kevin on July 21 and handed him over to judicial custody.
