BJP showcauses two netas for offensive language against Jains
Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh BJP has issued showcause notices to two party functionaries in Jabalpur — Jagriti Shukla and Shailendra Rajput — after a purported telephonic conservation between the two using offensive words for the Jain community was shared on social media.
While Jagriti is an influential local functionary, Shailendra identified himself as an MLA's representative.
In the audio, both party functionaries allegedly equated Jains with Muslims and compared them with Ravana. Outraged, members of the Jain community gheraoed the City Kotwali police station late Tuesday night and filed a complaint with the chief minister's office.
On Thursday evening, BJP district president for Jabalpur Ratnesh Sonkar issued showcause notices to Jagriti and Shailendra. The showcause notices said, "You are being informed through this notice that based on a viral audio recording on the social media and complaints received from various sections of society, you have used humiliating and offensive words against a community during a conversation."
The party has ordered the duo to reply within three days, failing which they could even be expelled from the organization. Police have also registered a case against the duo following a complaint filed by Jain community members.
Jagriti and Shailendra have denied it was their voices in the audio. BJP MLA Abhilash Pandey denied that he ever appointed Shailendra as his representative.
