BHOPAL: Ambrish Sharma, the BJP MLA from Lahar constituency in Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh, turned action hero on Thursday afternoon when he confronted a group of masked men assaulting a local youth, pulling a gun and forcing them to flee.
The incident, caught on video, has since gone viral.
Sharma was passing through Bhind’s Rawatpura Sani turn when he spotted several men dragging a man out of his car and beating him with sticks.
He ordered his driver to stop, stepped out, and pulled a gun from his vehicle. The sight of an armed MLA was enough, the attackers bolted.
The victim, Yuvraj Singh Rajawat, later told local reporters he had borrowed Rs 30 lakh from five men, Shivam Dubey, Satyam Goswami, Rahul Sharma, Harsh Sharma, and Vishwavendra Rajawat, to invest in the stock market.
Though he claims to have repaid Rs 42 lakh, the lenders are now demanding Rs 80 lakh, falsely alleging a second loan of Rs 50 lakh.
But this wasn’t their first attempt at intimidation. In January 2025, Yuvraj says the same men abducted him from his home, drove him across Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh — including Jaipur, Khatu Shyam, and Dholpura and beat him along the way before dumping him back at home. He filed a complaint at the SP office, but says the police never registered an FIR or took action.
Lahar police however claim no complaint had been received. If the victim comes forward, they will provide full support, police say.
MLA Ambrish Sharma told the media, “This kind of hooliganism will not be tolerated. Anyone being threatened should go to the police and if needed, I’ll step in myself.”
