Bhopal: Desperate to save her brother from suicide, a woman tweeted an SOS to the Madhya Pradesh DGP and Gwalior SP when calls to Dial 100 allegedly went unanswered on Wednesday. Police tracked him down and found him just after he had taken poison, but still with time to save his life.
The youngster is the son of a Special Armed Force (SAF) constable in Gwalior. He left home in a huff after a row with his father and called his sister to say he would attempt suicide.
Alarmed, the sister, who is a govt employee in Barwani, dialled the police helpline (100). When the call went unanswered, she turned to social media. Around noon, she posted on X, tagging senior police officers, including the DGP and SP.
She shared her brother's mobile number, and pleaded with them to save his life.
The cyber cell team swung into action. Using the mobile number, they traced the youth's location to DD Mall near Phoolbagh in Gwalior and alerted Madhoganj police station, which scrambled a team to the site.
The cops found him in distress — he had already consumed a poisonous substance. They rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors stabilised him. Senior SP Dharmveer Singh informed the sister that her brother was safe and being cared for. When he recovered, he was handed over to his family.
The entire rescue operation — from the sister's tweet to the youth's rescue — took barely 30 minutes.
