Two arrested for arson, attempt to murder
Bhopal: Ashoka Garden police on Saturday claimed to have arrested the two miscreants wanted on charges of attempted murder by trying to burn down a building. The accused, Ravi Kushwaha alias Lekin Painter and Firoz Khan, set fire to a house's shutter curtain using petrol, endangering property and lives. Both have been charged under multiple sections, and further investigation is underway.
SHO Ashoka Garden Hemant Shrivastava said that on Jan 24, a 23-year-old complainant reported that she resides in Hinautiya Kachhiyan, Ashoka Garden. Approximately 10 days earlier, an altercation occurred involving Ravi Kushwaha in Pushpa Nagar, during which the complainant's brother, Akash Malviya, intervened to mediate. Ravi held a grudge against Akash due to this incident.
SHO Shrivastava said that on Jan 23, at around 11:45 PM, Ravi Kushwaha and his accomplice Firoz Khan arrived near the complainant's house. When the complainant's sister-in-law inquired about their presence, Ravi slapped her, injuring her face. Subsequently, Ravi poured petrol from a plastic bottle onto the curtain hanging on the shutter and ignited it using a lighter. The petrol also spilled onto the road, causing a fire that narrowly missed burning two parked scooters. The family managed to extinguish the fire with water. Although there were minor burns, the complainant and her sister-in-law opted not to undergo medical examinations.
The SHO said that acting on a tip-off during a patrol on Jan 24, police were informed that the suspects involved in the arson incident were near a mosque in Chandbad. When police arrived at the location, the suspects attempted to flee but were nabbed after a chase.
The accused were identified as Ravi Kushwaha alias Lekin Painter, 19, a resident of Mahamahi ka Bagh, Aishbagh, and Firoz Khan, 19, a resident of Chandbad in Bajaria.
Both suspects were taken into custody and charged under relevant sections. After their arrest, the accused were paraded in the area and presented before the court. Further investigations are ongoing.
