Bhopal: Ayodhya Nagar police on Saturday claimed to have busted a vehicle theft gang led by accused Adarsh Rajput alias Golu Rajput, an auto-rickshaw driver, and arrested him along with two minors. Police said they have recovered an e-rickshaw and five two-wheelers from the accused. The total value of the recovered vehicles is estimated to be around Rs 7 lakh.
Adarsh Rajput, the prime accused, lured the minors into the crime with the promise of money. Rajput would change the number plates of stolen vehicles and commit thefts.
Ayodhya Nagar SHO Mahesh Lilhare said that during investigation, police received a tip-off that individuals matching the description and nabbed them and recovered the stolen vehicles.
Among the three arrested, two are minors, while the third accused — Adarsh Rajput, 20, is a resident of Roop Nagar, Ashoka Garden. Originally, he hails from Salamatpur village in Raisen district.
SHO Lilhare stated that prime accused Adarsh Rajput befriended the minors at a liquor shop. To fund his regular drinking and other indulgences, he lured them into the crime. When the kids could not contribute, Rajput threatened them and built up pressure for money after which the kids agreed to join him in the crimes.
