7-yr-old girl drowns in Mantei river

Balasore: A seven-year-old girl drowned in the Mantei river near Mishrapur village under Jagannath Prasad panchayat in Basudevpur block of Bhadrak district on Wednesday. The deceased, Jhilli Maiti, was a resident of Karana Palli village.
According to sources, Jhilli had accompanied her mother to visit relatives in Mishrapur. While playing alone near the river, she reportedly slipped and fell into the water.
When she did not return home for a long time, her family members began searching for her but could not locate her. Local residents also joined the search. With no success, the family alerted the fire services, whose personnel launched a rescue operation.
Fire-fighters recovered the girl after an extensive search and rushed her to Basudevpur community health centre (CHC), where doctors declared her brought dead. Basudevpur police arrived at the CHC upon receiving the information and took custody of the body for postmortem.
