Bhubaneswar/Cuttack: CM Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday commemorated the birth anniversary of Utkal Gourav Madhusudan Das, pledging to realise his dream of a prosperous Odisha by 2036.
Speaking at a state-level celebration at Jayadev Bhavan, organised by the department of information and public relations, the chief minister highlighted Madhubabu's pioneering role in establishing Odia identity and pride. "Madhubabu was not just the first Odia graduate or the first to study law abroad, he was the architect of modern Odisha," said Majhi.
He highlighted Madhubabu's crucial role in forming Utkal Sammilani, which ultimately led to the creation of the state of Odisha in 1936.
The govt announced a significant development initiative worth Rs 21 crore for Satyabhamapur, Madhubabu's birthplace. The CM ordered the preparation of a detailed project report for further development of the memorial site. Additionally, plans are underway to transform the historic Utkal Tannery into a monument.
Odisha Assembly of Small and Medium Enterprises (OASME), meanwhile, has submitted a memorandum to Odia language, literature and culture minister Suryabanshi Suraj, demanding the installation of Madhusudan's statue at Madhupatna Square.
"Madhubabu was a pioneering figure in Odisha's history, known for his role in shaping the state's destiny. His vision and leadership continue to inspire generations," said Satwik Swain, secretary general of OASME.
The organisation emphasised on the urgent need to recognise Madhubabu's contributions to Odisha's economic and cultural development.
