CHANDIGARH: A television actor was killed and his friend injured after the SUV they were travelling in rammed into a tree while avoiding a collision with a stray dog in Sector 27 around 1am on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Mohan Kapur, 35, a resident of Sector 29 who featured in a TV serial. His friend, Ravinder Singh Gill, is battling for life at GMCH-32.
Police said Gill, a resident of Sector 28, was at the wheel and Kapur was sitting next to him. They were going to Panchkula from Sector 22 after partying. As they reached the sectors 27 and 30 dividing road, Gill lost control of the SUV while trying to avoid hitting a stray dog and the vehicle rammed into a roadside tree. After hearing the sound of the collision, passersby ran to help them and informed the police.
Police rushed the two to GMCH-32, where Kapur succumbed during treatment. The condition of Gill is stated to be stable. “It was found during preliminary investigation that the two were not wearing seat belts,” said a cop.
Police handed over Kapur’s body to his family after the post-mortem.
A CCTV camera installed near the spot has recorded the accident. Police have initiated inquest proceedings.
