Chandigarh: PGI has constituted its new institute body (IB), the highest decision-making authority within the institution, featuring a panel of experts and administrators. The newly-formed body comprises 15 members, including prominent figures from the fields of science, management, and medicine.
A key appointment to the IB is Dr K Vijay Raghavan, former principal scientific adviser to the Prime Minister. Besides, the panel will also comprise Dr Nikhil Tandon, head of the department of endocrinology, AIIMS, New Delhi, Dr Vineet Ahuja from the department of gastroenterology, AIIMS, New Delhi and Prof B S Sahay, director of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Jammu. Prof Sahay's expertise has been sought to shape PGI's administrative and operational frameworks. Another former AIIMS Delhi faculty member who is part of the IB is Prof Sushil Kabra, former head of the paediatrics department.
Three ex-officio members are vice-chancellor of Panjab University, director general of health services, and director, PGI. Three members from the Union ministry of health and family welfare include the health secretary, additional secretary, and financial adviser, besides a representative of the ministry of education.
While most members of the IB will also be part of the governing body, constitution of the standing finance committee and standing purchase committee is expected in the next two months. These committees will play a vital role in streamlining financial and procurement processes, enhancing PGI's efficiency.
