‘PM Narendra Modi feeling insecure’: Congress protests in Jalandhar, Chandigarh, Sirsa over ED chargesheet against Sonia, Rahul Gandhi
Chandigarh/Jalandhar: Congress leaders and workers on Wednesday staged protests in Chandigarh, Jalandhar and Sirsa to show their ire over ED's chargesheet against party leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case.
In Chandigarh, Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring led the protest. Congress leaders and workers gathered at the Punjab Congress Bhawan in large numbers and later marched to the ED office in Sector 9. They raised slogans against the Modi govt with placards and banners.
In Jalandhar, leaders from Punjab's Doaba and Majha regions staged the protest outside the Directorate of Enforcement's office in Jalandhar. Congress MPs Charanjit Singh Channi and Gurjit Singh Aujla, and MLAs Pargat Singh, Bawa Henry, Sukhwinder Kotli, Hardev Singh Ladi Sherowalia, and several other leaders gathered, at the protest site.
In Chandigarh, Warring said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was feeling insecure and trying to create a fake narrative and perception against the Gandhi family. He held that even PM Modi knew there was nothing in the case and it would not stand legal scrutiny.
In Sirsa, Congress MP Selja led the agitation by Congress workers. Selja accused the Union govt for acting like a dictator. "This action is vendetta politics of the Union govt. But this will not deter them or Congress workers. We have strong faith in our leadership, and the masses will continue to express their support towards them by participating in protests," said Selja.
Warring added Modi wanted to misuse ED along with a pliant media to build up a perception of corruption against Sonia and Rahul Gandhi. Warring pointed out that Modi could not find a single thing against the Gandhis' during the 10 of UPA rule, and then he took up the National Herald issue. "Where is the money which was laundered as Modi alleges?" he asked, adding that if Modi believed he could malign the Gandhis with his fake narratives, he was badly mistaken.
The Ludhiana MP claimed that Modi was feeling "jealous" of the Gandhis for their history of sacrifices for the country. "Modi will need to take seven births to match those sacrifices," he said, adding that now he the PM was trying just to malign their image and derive sadistic pleasure out of it.
In Jalandhar, party leaders called the ED action "vendetta politics being unleashed by the Modi govt". Channi said BJP and AAP were vitiating the atmosphere of the state. "CM says bombs are coming from Pakistan; he should get it checked if bombs are coming from Delhi," he said.
Pargat said the style of functioning of the Modi govt at the Centre and the Bhagwant Mann govt in Punjab was similar, using central and state agencies respectively against the opposition.
Meanwhile, BJP Haryana president Mohan Lal Badoli accused the Gandhis of amassing wealth worth several crores of rupees. "They stand exposed, so the Congress and its leaders are creating a hue and cry," said Badoli.
