PM to lay foundation of 800 MW thermal unit in Yamunanagar: Anil Vij
YAMUNANAGAR
:
Haryana energy minister Anil Vij said that a new 800 MW supercritical thermal unit will be established in Yamunanagar, leveraging advanced technology to enhance efficiency and reduce pollution. The project is expected to significantly boost the state’s power generation capacity and reduce dependence on external electricity sources.
Vij shared this while inspecting preparations for the upcoming visit of Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi, who will lay the foundation stone for the third unit of the Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Plant on April 14 in Yamunanagar. He also chaired a meeting with officials to ensure meticulous arrangements for the event.
Highlighting broader energy plans, Vij mentioned that similar supercritical thermal units are proposed for Khedar and Panipat, further strengthening Haryana’s power infrastructure.
Vij assured that electricity rates for consumers using up to 300 units will not increase. “Since 2014, electricity tariff hikes have remained minimal—only around 15 to 20 paise—which is about 72% lower than previous trends,” he noted.
Responding to concerns about rising fuel prices, the minister emphasized that the increased cost of petrol and diesel will not be passed on to the public.
On the issue of Haryana Roadways employees' strike, Vij stated, “I make it a point to listen to the problems of employees across all departments under me and provide assistance wherever possible. No formal complaint from roadways employees has come to my notice.”
He also confirmed that farmers whose land was acquired for the rally venue will receive fair compensation.
Vij thoroughly reviewed rally arrangements including water supply, sanitation, parking, security, and seating. He also examined the PM’s route plan, VIP facilities, and media center setup, offering guidance based on his four decades of political experience.
Vij, accompanied by senior officials and engineers, inspected the existing Yamunanagar thermal power plant to review current operations and gather insights on the technology in use.
Present on the occasion were ACS of the energy department Apoorva Kumar Singh, Ambala Range IGP Sibash Kaviraj, power generation corporation MD Ashok Meena, deputy commissioner Parth Gupta, SP Rajeev Deswal, ASP Srishti Gupta, superintendent engineer Arvind Rohilla of the public health engineering department, SDM of Jagadhri Sonu Ram and other department officials.
