Deputy director general of meteorology Senthamarai Kannan said the city will see a mix of cloudy weather and rain throughout the week, with daily highs between 33°C and 35°C and lows of 27-28°C. Thunderstorm warnings are in place until Sept 24, with light to moderate rain expected to continue afterward.

Isolated rainfall has been reported across north Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, while Karaikal remains dry.

Madurai airport recorded the highest temperature at 39.2°C, and Erode had the lowest minimum at 20.0°C. An upper air cyclonic circulation over the west-central Bay of Bengal is driving wet weather across the state, with a low-pressure area likely to form around Sept 23. Nearby districts, including Chengalpet and Kancheepuram, can also expect light to moderate rain this week.
