New PG diploma courses in aerospace engg, AI at IIT-M
Chennai: Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M) launched postgraduate diploma (PG diploma) programmes in aerospace engineering, artificial intelligence, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, engineering design (E-mobility), and process safety. These programmes allow graduates and working professionals to access quality education while maintaining the flexibility to pursue employment or internships simultaneously.
The courses offer online evening or weekend classes and provide access to recorded sessions. Candidates who perform well in the PG diploma programme may have the opportunity to upgrade to a web-enabled MTech degree.
Professor Vignesh Muthuvijayan, associate chair, Centre for Outreach and Digital Education (CODE), IIT Madras, said, "We are addressing the growing need for flexible, industry-relevant technical education that caters to the evolving aspirations of young graduates and working professionals. This programme enables students to continue their learning journey without putting their careers on hold."
Candidates are required to complete projects and interim assessments. Final exams will be conducted at designated centres across the country, and students can also visit IIT Madras for lab sessions. Applications are open now, and interested candidates can apply until the end of May. Admissions will be based on an entrance exam, which will be conducted on July 13.
Classes will commence in Aug or Sept 2025.
