NEW DELHI: A 40-year-old traffic constable died on Tuesday morning when a truck rammed into his motorcycle near Shastri Park. The deceased, identified as Mahesh Anand, was on his way to duty at the Todapur Traffic Lines when the incident took place, said officials.
“At about 6.45am, constable Anand was going to Todapur in connection with traffic arrangement duties when he was hit from the back by a speeding truck which had a Haryana number plate.
The incident took place near Shastri Park on a road leading to the Gandhi Nagar old iron bridge,” said additional commissioner of police (traffic) Anil Shukla.
Anand was rushed to Guru Teg Bahadur hospital, where he was declared brought dead. “An FIR in this regard has been registered at Seelampur police station for causing death due to negligence and the errant driver of the truck has been arrested. He has been identified as 22-year-old Alam, a resident of Patparganj in east Delhi,” said a senior police officer.
Mahesh Anand’s funeral was held at Maujpur cremation ground on Tuesday, which was attended by many police officials and officers from the traffic wing of Delhi Police.
Mahesh Anand had joined Delhi Police in 1993 and had been working with the traffic wing since June 2011.
