Man’s FIR accuses himself after crash kills his daughter
Margao: The man accused of killing his six-year-old daughter at Macazana was arrested in Karnataka. Saleem Dambal, who evaded police since the child's death on April 29, was apprehended in his hometown of Gadag and brought to Goa.
The arrest followed an extensive manhunt that included surveillance of public places, railway stations, and bus stands. Earlier, a police team from Maina-Curtorim returned empty-handed after searching for Dambal in Gadag.
The police said the accused struck his young daughter with a wooden stick while under the influence of alcohol. He also allegedly assaulted his wife and four-year-old son, inflicting injuries through beatings and kicks, before fleeing the scene. The victim lived with her parents and brother in a makeshift hut at Macazana.
A case was registered against Dambal for murder and voluntarily causing hurt. Sections of the Goa Children’s Act were also invoked. Police said the accused will be produced before a local court for remand proceedings. Police hope his custodial interrogation could reveal details that may explain his irrational behaviour. Further investigation is under way, police said.
