Gurgaon: A lift went into free fall at a hotel on Golf Course Road, injuring five of its occupants on Saturday. Police registered an FIR on Wednesday against the management of Hotel Zen Suites in Sector 43. An investigation into the cause of the lift's collapse revealed maintenance problems.
The elevator, which was functioning normally until the third floor, suddenly developed the snag before plummeting to the basement. Manjari (33), one of the occupants who is living in Ardee City, suffered a fracture in her leg, while her husband Priyank Kohli (30) sustained serious spine and leg injuries. Three others — their friends Shrey Mahajan, Kunal Chaudhary and Vaibhav Mukija — also suffered injuries after the fall.
All five were rushed to Paras Hospital, where they received medical treatment. Initial medical reports confirmed multiple injuries, with Manjari, who hails from Pathankot, initially deemed unfit for a police statement. Later, doctors declared her fit and her complaint was formally recorded.
Manjari alleged in her complaint she had accompanied her husband Priyank to meet a friend at the hotel on April 12. While she initially waited in the car, she later joined her husband and his friends on the fourth floor of the hotel. While descending, a sudden jolt was felt and the lift crashed into the basement. Manjari also claimed that the incident occurred due to "gross negligence and lack of proper maintenance by the hotel management".
"I had to undergo a surgery and my husband suffered injuries to his spine and his leg while others also received injuries on their leg," Manjari said.
The FIR was registered under BNS sections 289 and 125(a) for negligence and endangering personal safety.
