Guwahati: A 26-year-old medical college student was arrested on Friday by the
CID of Assam Police for his alleged involvement in the Class 11 mathematics question paper leak during last month's higher secondary first year examination, which was later cancelled by Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB).
Mohammad Ashique, the arrested person, is a student at Nagaon Medical College. He is the son of Sheikh Mohammad Nasiruddin, who works as a part-time teacher and also runs a privately owned school in Nagaon's Juria.
Police said, CID traced a chain of UPI transactions and recorded statements from several students, which revealed that Ashique had allegedly leaked the examination papers in exchange for money.
The statement also mentioned that Ashique was arrested under various sections of the BNS, including Section 61(2), which defines criminal conspiracy as an agreement to commit a crime or achieve a goal through illegal means, Section 334(2), Section 112(2), Section 318(4) and Section 316(5).
The accused was produced in court on Friday, which sent him to police custody.
Ashique was earlier arrested in two cases of theft and kidnapping.
Last month, the ASSEB announced the cancellation of the higher secondary first year examination after it was discovered that mathematics paper packets were prematurely opened by 15 private institutions across 10 districts.
