Maha truck driver held in connection with minister Hebbalkar’ car accident
Belagavi: Belagavi police arrested a truck driver from Maharashtra in connection with the car accident of minister for women and child welfare Laxmi Hebbalkar that occurred on Jan 14, near Kittur.
The accused is Madhukar Kondiram Somavanshi, 65, a resident of Takararwadi in Indapur taluk of Pune district, Maharashtra. Minister Hebbalkar and her brother Channaraj Hattiholi were injured in the car accident. Police registered it as a hit-and-run case and formed three teams to search for the vehicle that hit her car from the right side.
After being hit by the truck, the car went down to the service road from the national highway and hit a tree. The car was completely damaged. In a release, SP Bhimashankar Guled stated that the accused was arrested recently, and the truck has been seized. BJP raised questions about the accident, as the minister's car was travelling without an escort.
