Police dog Tara helps solve murder case in D’gere
Davangere: Police dog Tara has played a crucial role in solving a murder case reported in the jurisdiction of Davanagere Rural police station. The case involved the death of Shivakumar, 28, from Hegdehal village in Chitradurga district.
Shivakumar was murdered at a field in Honnur village. During investigation at the crime scene, Tara tracked down the suspect, Jayappa, 29, who resided about 1km from where the incident took place. Police officials said the accused has confessed to the crime during questioning.
According to police investigation, Shivakumar, a bachelor, allegedly had an illicit relationship with the wife of Jayappa. When Shivakumar went to meet her on March 4 night, Jayappa saw them speaking to each other. After Jayappa attacked Shivakumar, the latter fled. But still, Jayappa chased Shivakumar. "Jayappa admitted that he murdered Shivakumar at 10.30pm at a farmland in Honnur," said CPI Kiran Kumar EY.
The officer added that their sniffer dog, Tara, accurately located the accused who lived near the crime scene. "The court has sent him to judicial custody, and the investigation will continue," the CPI said.
