Karwar: Even as the Salkod pregnant cow killing incident is still fresh in the minds of the people of Uttara Kannada, a similar incident has taken place in the neighbouring Bhatkal taluk.
On Thursday, a pregnant cow was killed by cattle slaughterers near the banks of Venkatapur Kukkanir stream in Heble village panchayat of Bhatkal.
Unidentified individuals slaughtered the pregnant cow, exposed its organs and the foetus inside its womb, wrapped them in a gunny bag, and discarded it on the riverbank. Locals came to know about this after a stray dog tore open the bag.
Bhatkal city police visited the site to conduct an inspection. A case has been registered at Bhatkal Rural police station, and an investigation is on launched to trace the culprits. Police are on high alert as Bhatkal is a communally sensitive place.
Narayan M, SP of Uttara Kannada, and Krishnamurty G, additional superintendent of police, visited the place and issued guidance to the police personnel to track down the culprits, Uttara Kannada police said.
