Hyderabad: A retired excise inspector, his daughter and two others were arrested on Wednesday for the murder of a businessman in his shop in Nalgonda town on April 11. Police said the excise inspector plotted the murder as he blamed the man – his daughter's brother-in-law – for her strained ties with her husband who was now living with another woman.
After a detailed probe, police arrested retired excise CI Matari Venkatayya (66), daughter G Umamaheshwari (37), a doctor; R Kiran Kumar (44), former navy man now running a detective agency, all from Kothapet; and Kiran's relative M Jagadish Kumar (39), a tiles worker from Kattangur.
The victim, G Suresh (45), was the elder brother of Umamaheshwari's husband G Naresh. The couple had married in 2017.
"The matrimonial relationship had strained after a while as Naresh became close to another woman and started avoiding his wife. Venkatayya and his daughter believed Suresh encouraged his brother to have the affair, and decided to have him killed. They consulted Kiran, who assured them he would kill him for Rs 15 lakh without leaving any evidence. He took Rs 2 lakh advance from Venkatayya and roped in Jagadish," Nalgonda SP Sharat Chandra Pawar said.
The SP said that Kiran, who was employed by Venkatayya to keep an eye on the brothers, had also found out that Naresh had a child with the other woman.
As per their plan, Suresh, a native of Nakrekal in Nalgonda, was targeted at his printing and scanning shop in the town. At around 10.30 pm on April 11, when Suresh was alone at his shop, two masked men, alleged to be Kiran and Jagadish, entered posing as customers and attacked him with sickles, killing him on the spot.
On Wednesday, the police also seized a car, two bikes and six cell phones from the arrested accused.
