Hyderabad: BJP corporator held on abduction charge

HYDERABAD: Gaddiannaram corporator Prem Maheshwar Reddy and nine others were arrested on Saturday by Rachakonda police for allegedly kidnapping a 21-year-old man. Police said that since the accused had dispute with the victim's father, who is a former history-sheeter, the kidnap was allegedly executed.
Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat, in a press note, said that 10 persons - BJP corporator Maheshwar Reddy, Puneet Tiwari, P Manjunath, P Ravi, K Pavan Kumar, R Hemanth, R Chandrakanth, B Praneet, K Karthik, M Ravi Verma - were arrested, while Shravan, L Murali, Mahesh, Maruthi, Sai Kiran were still at large.
On Thursday, Saroornagar police received a complaint from Narayana, a former history-sheeter in Saroornagar police station, claiming that his son Subramanyam was kidnapped by unknown persons from his residence. On Friday, police rescued Subramanyam in Nalgonda district and took the accused into custody.
During interrogation, police came to know that since Narayana has been involving in different issues at P&T colony and in Gaddiannaram division, the corporator and his associates did not like it.
Recently, Shravan, who is a follower of Maheshwar Reddy, approached the latter seeking his help since he was having problem with Narayana. Similarly, Murali too had property dispute with Narayana and this made Murali approach Shravan for help. This issue too was brought to the notice of the corporator by Shravan.
"Corporator Maheshwar Reddy and Shravan conspired to kidnap Narayana and beat him. The corporator contacted Puneet, who works as an outsourcing employee at the secretariat, to call in his friends to kidnap and beat Narayana. On Thursday late night, Puneet and others reached the residence of Narayana in two different cars, but they could not find him. On coming across his son, they kidnapped him," police said.
