HYDERABAD: Uma Krishnaiah, wife of former IAS officer G Krishnaiah, said on Monday that she was happy the Supreme Court had served a notice to the Bihar government over the premature release from jail of former MP Anand Mohan Singh. The notices were issued on her plea challenging Singh’s release.
Uma told reporters, “I am pleased that the apex court has responded positively.
We are confident that we will receive justice.” She emphasised that the issue was larger than just the release of the man convicted of killing her husband in 1994. According to her, such decisions would affect the entire nation.
On April 27, the
Nitish Kumar government in Bihar had released Singh after amending the Bihar Prison Manual 2012. Until then, the manual had barred the premature release of those convicted of killing serving officers. Uma alleged, “The Bihar government has retrospectively amended the manual to facilitate the convict’s release. This amendment was made to benefit Singh and allow his release on remission.”
