Wild surprise for Mhow villagers as tiger nearby forest caught on camera
Mhow: A video of tiger prowling in forest near little-known Malendi village of Mhow tehsil went viral sparking concern among locals and prompting swift action by forest officials.
Mhow deputy ranger Pawan Joshi, who was assigned the task of getting details of of the wild cat movement said, "The tiger sighted near Malendi village is a male and is about four-year-old. We are trying to find out from which forest it has come since it is not a native animal of Mhow forest areas. Till now, there are no reports of any animal killed by it, which shows that it came here recently."
The sighting of tiger has caused anxiety among residents of Malendi, Kodariya, Ashapura, Badgonda, and Bercha villages. Villagers are concerned since sometime ago about a dozen cattle and an elderly man was killed after sighting of a tiger in the area.
Malendi, Kodariya, Ashapura, Badgonda, and Bercha are homes to around 100 potato chips manufacturing units a large number of workers along with their children, reside in open areas of the units.
In wake of previous incidents, forest officials are implementing preventive measures to mitigate the risk to people of the villages nearby. Panchayats of the villages have been notified by forest officials about the tiger so that they can disseminate the information in their areas to avoid any untoward incident.
Earlier, about one and a half years ago, a full-sized tiger was sighted on the campus of Army War College. The CCTVs installed on the campus had captured the wild cat movement. Following the sighting of tiger, the whole campus was on high alert and movements of people, especially at night, were restricted by orders. Cages were put inside the campus, but the tiger was never trapped, and a leopard was trapped in that cage recently.
