Pvt bus operators reject stand at Transport Nagar, threaten to skip city stop
Jaipur: Confusion over the state govt's decision to shift the bus stand from Narayan Singh Circle to Transport Nagar intensified after the associations of long-distance private buses refused to halt at the newly demarcated bus stand on Delhi Road.
They asserted that if police prohibit them from standing at Narayan Singh Circle, they will not enter the bus stand on Delhi Road in Transport Nagar. Instead, they would proceed directly towards their final destinations and, if possible, pick up passengers enroute.
"First of all, we have not been informed officially about the decision of the state govt by any concerned departments. We are receiving this information solely through media reports. We are not going to stop at the designated bus stand. Instead, we would commence from Sindhi Camp and begin picking up passengers en route wherever feasible," said Satyanarayan Sahu, state president of Bus operators' Association.
To decongest the Narayan Singh Circle crossing, the Traffic Control Board (TCB) of the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has taken a decision to shift the bus stand at the Narayan Singh Circle on Tonk Road to Transport Nagar. Subsequently, the police and the transport department have identified two parcels of land – one on Delhi Road for private buses and the other on Agra Road for buses operated by the state-run corporations.
"I wanted to book a ticket to Delhi on April 9 and I am perplexed. While RSRTC officials are yet uncertain about the development, the private bus operators are further bewildering me with different options across the city. Whilst some operators insist they would pick up passengers from Narayan Singh Circle itself, some are asking to wait at the Tri Murti Circle and others asking me to come to Gurudwara crossing of Transport Nagar," said Abhinash Saini, Malviya Nagar resident and employee of a telecom service provider.
Amidst such uncertainties, the sole alternative for passengers remains boarding buses from the Sindhi Camp area.
"Almost all Delhi Road and Agra Road bound buses commence from Sindhi Camp. There is no restriction to start from Sindhi Camp. If passengers come to Sindhi Camp there won't be any confusion and thousands of available options," said Satnam Singh, the booking officer of an operator.
