Foreman's family shared their sorrow on social media, highlighting his multifaceted legacy as an athlete, preacher, and humanitarian.

George Foreman, one of the biggest names in American professional boxing, passed away on March 21. He won an Olympic gold medal in 1968 and became a heavyweight champion in 1973. His family released the news of his death on Instagram, and ever since, tributes have been pouring in. Scottie Pippen, the NBA legend, has also posted on his socials, paying tribute to the Olympic gold medalist.

One of the greatest professional boxers in America, George Foreman, aka Big George, was an inspiring figure in the sports world. He won the heavyweight champion title in 1973 by defeating Joe Frazier. However, he lost the title in a 'Rumble in the Jungle’ in 1974 to Muhammad Ali in what is considered a historic fight. But then he won it back at 45, creating a real-life Rocky Balboa moment with his achievement.
The news of his passing has brought many people out to pay their tributes, including Scottie Pippen - the NBA legend. He posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account, writing:
"Rest in peace, George Foreman. Your legacy lives on, champ. 🕊️'

He concluded the post with a dove sign, showing respect to the former champion, who died at the age of 76.

Magic Johnson mourns the loss of this enigmatic personality


Magic Johnson, another NBA legend also poured in his tribute at the passing of George Foreman. He wrote “I was really sad to hear the news that one of my boxing heroes, George Foreman, passing away,” before adding on how much he admired George as not just a boxer but as a man.

His family, who released the news about his passing, are also mourning a legendary personality like Big George. They posted in their socials, writing:
“Our hearts are broken. With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved George Edward Foreman Sr. who peacefully departed on March 21, 2025 surrounded by loved ones."
The post further continued, writing about his legacy as not just an athlete but as A human being.

"A devout preacher, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grand- and great-grandfather, he lived a life marked by unwavering faith, humility, and purpose. A humanitarian, an Olympian and two-time heavyweight champion of the world, he was deeply respected. A force for good, a man of discipline, conviction, and a protector of his legacy, fighting tirelessly to preserve his good name— for his family.”
Foreman's legacy as a boxer, preacher, and also as businessman is too big to be captured in mere words. His legacy lives on with his family - his wife and 11 children, who are mourning this great personal loss.
