19-year-old BTech student hangs self after tiff over bike
Kolkata: A 19-year-old BTech student was found dead, hanging from the ceiling fan of his room in a housing complex on Abhedananda Road in north Kolkata's Maniktala on Wednesday night. The incident occurred shortly after the student, Soham Sen, had a spat with his mother, who refused to buy him a new motorbike.
Police said Sen was found hanging with the help of a bed sheet on the fifth floor of Merlin Ekta Apartment by his grandmother around 8 pm. He was taken to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where an attending doctor declared him dead on arrival.
A senior officer of Kolkata Police said Sen's parents were separated and his mother was raising him alone.
Sen was a former student of Calcutta Boys' School and was pursuing engineering at Techno India Engineering College.
"We have learnt that the boy was a very enthusiastic rider and demanded a new bike from his mother. However, his mother denied his request as she feared he would get into an accident. She was concerned about the safety of the boy and thus refused," said a senior officer of Kolkata Police.
Police said no suicide note was found and that they have started an unnatural death case.
