Bhowanipore locals on alert after twin thefts
Kolkata: Two back-to-back thefts have been reported in the Bhowanipore area, leading cops to believe that some petty criminals, who carried out a recce of the area, were involved in these crimes. Locals have demanded greater patrolling, even during the lean hours of the day, to prevent a repeat.
According to police, one Gautam Basu, with a permanent address at a flat on the busy Ashutosh Mukherjee Road but presently staying at Rakhal Mukherjee Road close to Hazra, claimed that there was a major break-in at his Ashutosh Mukherjee Road residence.

"The theft came to our knowledge on April 26, around 4.30 pm, when our domestic help visited the house for cleaning the premises. This house has been kept under lock and key for the past two years. Among the items missing are Rs 15,000 in cash, silver jewellery weighing 10 grams, and gold jewellery weighing around 10 grams. The theft is estimated to be around Rs 1.5 lakh-Rs 2 lakh.
Another theft of Rs 60,000, along with valuable documents, went missing from a Beltala Road house . The police stated that they were checking CCTV footage for leads. A few local criminals are also being tracked. The detective department is also providing technical assistance.
