Congress did not allow Dr B R Ambedkar's last rites to be performed in Delhi: UP CM Adityanath

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath accused the Congress party of disrespecting Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. He alleged that Congress obstructed the construction of Ambedkar's memorial and prevented his final rites from being held in Delhi. Adityanath further claimed that Congress amended the Constitution against Ambedkar's own arguments in 1976.

LUCKNOW: Accusing the Congress of disrespecting Dr B R Ambedkar, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath vehemently proclaimed that the established political party had deliberately denied a commemorative memorial to the Constitution's principal architect and impeded his final rites from being conducted in Delhi.
The chief minister articulated these assertions whilst addressing a ceremonial workshop organised under 'Bharat Ratna' Babasaheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Samman Samaroh in Lucknow.
"First they (apparently pointing towards the Congress) made Babasaheb Ambedkar lose the elections. After his 'mahaparinirvaan', they did not allow his last rites to be performed in Delhi. The Congress also did not allow his memorial to come up," said Adityanath.
"In 1976, they brought an amendment in the Constitution and inserted a word against which Babasaheb had himself given arguments," he added.
The final rites of Dr Ambedkar, who passed away at his residence in Delhi on December 6, 1956, were conducted in accordance with Buddhist ceremonial customs. His cremation ceremony was performed at Chaitya Bhoomi in Maharashtra's Mumbai city.
