Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh created history by clinching the gold medal in the 39th National Sub-Junior Boys' Handball Championship, edging out Rajasthan 31-30 in a thrilling final held in Keonjhar, Odisha, on Sunday.
Both teams looked evenly matched and closed the first half at 14-14. In the second half as well, players from both sides played with intense energy and remained neck-and-neck until UP scored the decisive goal in the dying moments of the match.
Krish was the top scorer for Uttar Pradesh with 11 goals. He was ably supported by Vikas (6), and Abhishek and Pravesh (4 each). Rajasthan's Praveen was the top scorer of the match with 16 goals.
Expressing happiness over the team's golden success, Uttar Pradesh Handball Association's general secretary Dr. Anandeshwar Pandey said that in the previous edition, the team had faltered at the final hurdle and had to settle for silver.
