NEW DELHI In the Mahsi region of Bahraich, a six-member wolf pack that had caused significant disturbances has been eradicated, with the last wolf killed by villagers in Tamachpur village on Saturday while it was attacking a goat.
The forest department retrieved the body of the wolf after the incident.
Bahraich district forest officer Ajit Singh siad, "For many days the department's teams were trying to catch this last wolf.
When we got information that there was an animal body lying in a village."
We immediately went there with our team and saw that a dead wolf was lying there since there were marks of wounds on his body. It is possible that these villagers or some other people killed it. We will investigate this. Only after investigation will we be able to say anything further," he added further.
For several months, this pack of six wolves created chaos across various villages in the Mahsi tehsil of the Bahraich district.
The
Uttar Pradesh Forest Department had launched "Operation Bhediya" to capture the wolves responsible for attacks in 25-30 villages under Mahsi tehsil within the Bahraich range.
The Forest Department had previously captured the fifth wolf on September 10. To locate the sixth wolf, the department installed snap cameras in probable wolf habitats, including three cameras in Sikandarpur village near six caves believed to be the wolves' habitat.
The wolf attacks have resulted in the deaths of nine people and injuries to over 40 individuals across several villages in Bahraich.
