PATIALA: In a heart-wrenching incident, six people, including five school children from a private school in Patiala, lost their lives. Seven others were injured following a head-on collision between a private vehicle (Innova) ferrying the children and a tipper truck laden with sand on Patiala–Samana Road near Nassupur village. The incident occurred at around 2.30pm on Wednesday.

The deceased children were aged between 7 and 12 years old. A case was registered against the tipper truck driver under various sections at Sadar Samana police station. The police apprehended the accused driver, identified as Bhupinder Singh.
According to the information, the students were returning to Samana from their school situated on Sular Road in Patiala. The impact of the collision was devastating, forcing the vehicle off the road and into a tree. The front portion of the car was mangled beyond recognition, and rescuers had to use a JCB machine to retrieve the victims’ bodies. The police said that the Innova was returning towards Samana from Patiala, whereas the tipper truck was coming from the opposite direction.
The deceased who were brought dead in Samana have been identified as Bhavyan Sachdeva, 8, and his elder sister Bhivanshi Sachdeva, 11, of Samana; Aradhya Lumba, 10, and Parv Sachdeva, 12 of Samana while the Innova driver Balwinder Singh, 45, of Fatehpur village, was also brought dead to Samana hospital. Another 10 years old girl student identified as Sehjal Bansal succumbed to injuries at government Rajindra hospital Patiala. An official said that Karan Sachdeva, father of deceased Bhivanshi and Bhavyan, reached the hospital on a wheelchair due to his foot injury and was inconsolable. The parents of affected school children were incolsable.
The injured students were identified as Natshita Singla, 10, Sifat Kaur, 9, Anayka Bansal, 8, Janvi, 10, and Anaya, 12. Takwinder Singh, 26, was also injured in the accident.
Among the injured students, four were rushed to the Government Rajindra Hospital Patiala and three were rushed to a private hospital in Patiala with critical injuries. Medical Superintendent Rajindra hospital Patiala, Dr Girish Sahni said that four children were brought to them of which one girl student had succumbed to injuries whereas two others were facing critical injuries including head injury whereas another 12 year old girl was out of danger. He said three were hospitalized in Amar hospital Patiala.

The police said that the head-on collision between the Innova and the tipper truck was devastating, leaving four children and the Innova driver dead on the spot. The remaining injured were referred from Samana hospital to the govt hospital in Patiala. The police are investigating the cause of the crash.
