Ludhiana: In a sweeping move to reinvigorate the city's policing apparatus, police commissioner Swapan Sharma on Friday ordered the transfer of 69 police personnel — from inspectors to constables — citing prolonged postings and underperformance as key reasons.
The reshuffle, which affects officers who have remained in the same location for over three years or who were flagged for lacklustre performance, is aimed at increasing operational efficiency, renewing public engagement, and preventing complacency within the ranks. "This is a step toward ensuring proactive, people-friendly policing. Performance and public satisfaction are our key priorities," Sharma said, noting that the reshuffle was based on a comprehensive performance review conducted by senior officers.
Fresh faces across key branches
The transfers span various departments, including police stations, traffic units and specialised branches. Among the changes: inspector Beant Juneja has been moved from Police Lines to the crime branch, inspector Kulwant Singh, previously with CIA Staff–1, has also been transferred to the crime branch, inspector Navdeep Singh, who served as in-charge of CIA Staff–3, has been reassigned to the Special Branch.
Sharma emphasised that performance-based assessments will now be a routine part of the department's functioning. "Negligence or failure to fulfil duties will not be tolerated. The district police remain committed to upholding the law, preventing crime, and strengthening public trust," he said. More transfers are expected in the coming weeks as the department continues its internal review.
