MUMBAI: Jet Airways sacked 40 cabin crew on Monday. The airline, in the process of terminating the services of a section of employees since the past couple of weeks, suspended 50 others on Saturday.
An airline spokesperson said the total number of laid-off staff was 209; it included 60 cabin crew and 119 staffers from its stations abroad. "Jet Airways has undertaken additional measures to streamline costs to improve the financial health of the company under the current challenges of the global environment.

The airline has issued notices of termination to some of the cabin crew on probation in accordance with their terms of contract and compliance with law,'' the spokesperson said, adding: "Jet has created an out-placement cell that has offered to provide active assistance to the cabin crew desirous of seeking employment with other carriers and organisations in the service industry.''
