BMC notice to extend coastal road till Dahisar
Mumbai: The BMC on Wednesday issued a public notice marking the alignment of the Mumbai Coastal Road's northern extension up to Dahisar. It has invited citizens to submit suggestions and objections within 30 days, after which a public hearing will be conducted.
While the Development Plan (DP)-2034 currently shows the alignment up to Bangur Nagar in Goregaon, it now requires an extension to Dahisar. As part of the project, around 60 land parcels between Goregaon and Dahisar will be reserved. According to officials, 70% of the land parcels belong to state govt and the rest are privately owned, but largely undevelopable due to their classification under the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) buffer.
The notice stated: "BMC's bridges department proposed the construction of the Mumbai North Coastal Road Project, extending nearly 17.6km from the Versova-Bandra sea link interchange to Dahisar interchange. Along with the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) connector (4.5km), the total project length is 22km. The alignment was finalised based on a survey by a consultant, and land acquisition is required, which needs to be reflected in DP-2034. The section of the proposed Coastal Road from Versova to the GMLR Connector (5.6km) is already shown in DP-2034...However, for the remaining stretch from the GMLR connector to Dahisar, changes to DP-2034 must be made under Section 37(1) of the Maharashtra Regional & Town Planning Act, 1966."
The alignment of the proposed stretch from GMLR connector to Dahisar (11.4km and width varying from 36.6m to 53m) will be incorporated into DP-2034. This includes its connectors and interchanges (totaling 3.5km in length and 10-40m in width) in wards P-North (Malad), R-South (Kandivli), R-Central (Borivli), and R-North (Dahisar). — Richa Pinto
