MUMBAI: One would wonder what a diamond theft has to do with goshalas (shelters for cows). Ajay Mehta (49), the brain behind the theft of diamonds revealed that that he wanted to build protective sheds and enclosures for animals and birds.
Mehta told the police that he wanted to start a goshala and kabutarkhana (pigeon enclosures) at his native place in Navsheri, Gujarat, for this he allegedly took to crime.
He wanted to name them after his parents. Mehta allegedly broke into the lockers at Bank of India’s Opera House branch with duplicate keys.
He was arrested along with three associates. “A con will always use such excuses to gain sympathy,” said Nishikant Patil, senior inspector of crime branch unit 2.
