The victim Mangesh Gasappa, 29, is currently recovering.

The incident took place late on Thursday when Gasappa visited relatives at Lotus SRA Society in Borivali West. The accused, Akash Shinde, also has relatives in the same area.

According to the police, Gasappa and Shinde were once friends, but their relationship soured after a dispute a year and a half ago. Since then, Shinde had allegedly been planning to take revenge.

On Thursday, while Gasappa was attending the Holi Puja and chatting with some people, Shinde approached him from behind and attacked him in the neck with a sickle. Gasappa suffered severe injuries and was bleeding profusely.

He was rushed to a hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. Police have taken Shinde into custody on charges of 'attempt to commit murder.'
