Three BMC officials caught accepting 10k bribe, held

Mumbai: Three BMC officials including a senior inspector of BMC (market department) Crawford Market were caught red handed while accepting and demanding a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a Yoga class owner.
The ACB arrested Manjay Vasant Gholap, Chief Inspector, Tulshidam Madhukar Kadu, Machin Ramdam Kondwilkar, Constable under Sections 7 and 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, for allegedly demanding and accepting bribes of Rs. 10,000 per month. The complainant, who has been conducting yoga sessions for children since 2023 in a vacant space near V.M.I. (Market Division), received notices from the BMC on 1st and 19th October 2024 warning of action related to the use of the space.

According to the complaint Gholap allegedly summoned the complainant and said, "If you don't want a third notice, you will have to pay Rs. 10,000 every month."
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB. Following a preliminary verification, a trap was laid. After several delayed meetings and attempts by the officials to conceal their activities, a conclusive meeting was held on April 29, 2025. During this encounter, Gholap repeated his demand for Rs. 10,000 per month to prevent further notices and agreed to accept the bribe.Gholap instructed Kadu who further passed it to Kondwilkar.
