Cooperate with MCC in waste disposal, improve Swachh ranking: Shaikh Tanveer
Mysuru: Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) commissioner Shaikh Tanveer Asif on Saturday appealed to the citizens of Mysuru to cooperate with the city civic body for effective disposal of waste. The corporation is making all efforts to improve its ranking to 10th place from the current 27th place in the ongoing Swachh Survekshan survey.
Speaking to reporters at his office, he said that the first round of the survey was already completed, and now they have taken up the second and final phase of the survey, which includes water rating, segregation of waste, and other aspects. Residents must stop dumping waste in drains, on roadsides, and in parks, and cooperate with the efforts of door-to-door garbage collection by dumping waste at designated spots.
The commissioner also urged all taxpayers to make use of the 5% property tax rebate provided by the MCC for payments made during April, the first month of the fiscal year. Mysuru residents should take advantage of this opportunity, which will benefit both them and the corporation, he said.
He also promised to resolve complaints regarding drinking water contamination after collecting details from officials about the affected areas and wards. Addressing the drinking water crisis during summer is a priority, he said.
The MCC is also geared up to clear all blocked drainages and stormwater drains, remove dead trees, and prune trees. It has also decided to float a tender for the removal of silt accumulated in stormwater drains. "With the onset of the rains, precautionary measures are being taken by the MCC. Trees at risk of falling will be scientifically removed. I have already instructed officials to take action. We are also working on clearing silt from stormwater drains," he mentioned.
