SWR plans to construct third entry gate to Mysuru railway station
Mysuru: The Mysuru division of the South Western Railway (SWR) is contemplating the construction of a third entry point to the Mysuru railway station. This Rs 200-crore project is designed to alleviate congestion at the main entrance and enhance facilities for commuters. The initiative is essential as the number of passengers has significantly increased over the past decade as a double track has been laid between Mysuru and Bengaluru.As the city is growing rapidly, the movement of people between Mysuru railway junction and other places, mainly Bengaluru, is increasing every year. Currently, daily about 50,000 passengers are departing from Mysuru railway station to other destinations. A large number of employees, students, women working in various garment factories concentrated in Ramanagar, Bidadi and Kengeri commute daily from Mysuru.As there is huge demand for Mysuru-Bengaluru trains from these commuters, the division is planning for the construction of a third entry point to the Mysuru railway station from Vani Vilas Water Works (VVWW) on KRS Road side to ease the congestion.The Mysuru railway station has two entrances and a third entrance has been planned on the model of Bayyappanahalli and Yeswantpur railway stations of Bengaluru, the railway authorities said. The new entrance will be designed on the lines of the airport terminal with hi-tech facilities that include shopping mall, cafeteria and super mart among other modern amenities, they stated. After the second entry point was opened opposite CFTRI, it helped the commuters.The Mysuru division railway had taken up the project of remodelling and redevelopment of the railway station without affecting its heritage structure under the PM Gati Shakthi project at a cost of Rs 750 crore. The project to build a third entrance gate is part of modernisation of the Mysuru railway station. The authorities have planned to connect the third entrance gate with the second entrance gate as it will not only help city railway authorities to ease parking congestion in the railway station but also operate more trains.Speaking to TOI, Mysuru division railway manager Shilpi Agarwal said the division has sent the proposal to the railway ministry for the construction of a third entrance gate from VVWW side. A Delhi-based agency has prepared a blueprint for the upgradation of Mysuru railway station, including the construction of the third entrance gate, she stated. Techno-feasibility studies conductedIt has conducted techno-feasibility studies as the Mysuru railway station needs to be extended by demolition of dilapidated quarters near VVWW side, she said. Upgradation of railway station, including construction of third entrance gate, is yet to be finalised, she added.
