Nagpur: The speculation around 13 Pakistani nationals, whose status of Long Term Visa (LTV) is in progress, is still lingering as the city police's query on their exit before the central govt is yet to be clarified. With one more day remaining for the final exit deadline on Tuesday, the city police are still waiting for clarification. The deck for exit was cleared for three persons, said an official.
The guidelines for the exit, which exempted those staying with LTVs, did not clarify regarding a bulk of the Pakistani nationals whose applications for similar permits are pending before the authorities. "Until there is clarity on the status of persons whose LTVs are in progress, we cannot decide on their exit as it is a sensitive issue with international repercussions," said an official. He added that CP Ravinder Singal and DCP (special branch) Shweta Khedkar are meticulously following the protocol and the guidelines issued to ensure there is no injustice done to anyone, irrespective of their citizenship.
Though there is a strong sentiment against the Pakistani nationals, the cops are keen to ensure no decision is taken in haste. "We will ensure all the documentation work is completed with due formalities," said a senior cop.
With the Pahalgam attack still fresh in mind, the cops have also stepped up surveillance across the city, and certain venues and institutions have been kept under strict security.
