Nashik: Nashik Road Railway station received sanctions for developmental works worth Rs 166 crore from the Central Railway in view of the upcoming Simhastha Kumbhmela 2026-28.
According to a senior officer, "The developmental plan of Rs 500 crore was presented to the general manager's office of the Central Railway. Then works worth Rs 166 crore were sanctioned, paving the way for the development of the railway station."
"Major works, including the construction of the station building on the eastern side of the railway station among others, were presented to the Railway Board for its approval," the officer said.
"As of now, the works, including the laying of two 12m wide foot over bridges (FOBs), were sanctioned for Nashik Road railway station. Besides, the construction of a Mela Tower Control Centre with concrete flooring, which will be used as a holding area for about 5,000 people, will be constructed to ensure that pilgrims during the Simhastha Kumbhmela are asked to wait until the train arrives and avoid any kind of commotion at the railway station," the officer said.
For drinking water arrangements, the network of pipelines and overhead and underground water storage tanks to store over 4 lakh litres were sanctioned. The station will also have 16 new toilet blocks, and the existing ones will also be upgraded.
According to the officer, the big-budget works that include the construction of the building on the eastern side of the railway station, extension of the FOBs to the proposed building, developing parking space, and such others were proposed to the Railway Board.
"Considering that the railway administration is expecting a high turnover for the religious fair, and that Devlali, Kasbe Sukene, Odha, and Kherwaid will need to be developed for traffic management, these works were also proposed to the Railway Board," the officer added.
A few weeks ago, the Bhusawal division of the Central Railway has proposed the construction of a terminus near the Nashik Road station if it gets the land for the purpose from the state as part of its Rs 500-crore developmental plan for the Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2026-28.
