Patna: State
BJP president Dilip Kumar Jaiswal on Friday condemned the alleged attack on students from Bihar at Guru Kashi University (GKU) in Bathinda, Punjab. He warned the Punjab govt that the BJP would not tolerate violence in educational institutions, regardless of whether the students affected were from Bihar or any other state.
In a written statement, Jaiswal alleged that students from Bihar were specifically targeted and attacked with swords. "Students from various districts of Bihar have gone there to study, but they are being targeted, which is unacceptable," he said.
Jaiswal criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) govt in Punjab, urging it to prevent educational institutions from becoming political battlegrounds. He also called on the police to identify and arrest those responsible for the attack. Jaiswal said thousands of students from Bihar pursue education in Punjab and that it is the Punjab govt's duty to provide them with adequate security to prevent such incidents in the future.
Meanwhile, Bihar chief secretary Amrit Lal Meena spoke to his Punjab counterpart, K A P Sinha, regarding the alleged attack. "I spoke to Punjab chief secretary over the issue. He assured me that the situation is completely under control and that the authorities concerned are closely monitoring developments," Meena told media persons here.
Bihar deputy CM Samrat Choudhary also condemned the incident and urged the Punjab govt to ensure the safety of the students. "The attack on students from Bihar at GKU is highly condemnable. I have learned that several youths from our state were injured. Under the AAP govt, Punjab has become a stronghold of hooliganism. The Punjab govt must immediately provide security to Bihar's students and take strict action against the accused," Choudhary said.
