Motihari:
AIMIM chief
Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday called for strong action against Pakistan following the
Pahalgam terror attack, saying that the neighbouring country "repeatedly targets India's borders and will not change its ways". He urged PM Narendra Modi to take decisive steps against terrorism without delay.
Addressing a public rally at Dhaka, near the India-Nepal border in East Champaran district, Owaisi, wearing a tricolour turban, supported severing trade ties with Pakistan. "The time has come to take tough decisions against this country," he said, demanding strict action and martyr status for the civilians killed in the Pahalgam attack.
Owaisi is focusing on border regions such as Mithilanchal, Champaran and Seemanchal for the upcoming
Bihar assembly elections. As part of his strategy, he chose Dhaka, a Muslim-majority constituency considered an NDA stronghold, for his address. The seat is currently held by BJP's Pawan Jaiswal, who defeated RJD's Faisal Rahman in the 2020 assembly polls.
Of the 12 assembly constituencies in East Champaran, the NDA holds nine while the RJD has three. Owaisi also criticised the Centre over the Waqf Amendment Act. "The Cenre has forcibly imposed this law and it is not right at all. We have opposed it from the House to the streets and will continue to do so," he said.
