Patna: Bihar Police, before the presentation of Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 in Parliament on Wednesday, issued an alert across the state on Tuesday.
The police headquarters officials said the step was taken to maintain peace and order in the state.
A letter for maintaining an alert was issued by additional director general (ADG) of law and order, Pankaj Darad, on April 1. A directive was issued to all IGs, DIGs, SSPs, and SPs to remain vigilant and ensure that peace and order are maintained across the state.
The ADG said, "Special precautions have to be exercised to ensure that the state's peace and order are not disrupted under any circumstance. If there is any violation of the law anywhere, immediate appropriate legal action has to be taken. The purpose of the alert is to maintain law and order in the state and prevent any chaos. The police headquarters has instructed all officers to remain vigilant and be prepared to handle any potential issues."
Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 was passed by Lok Sabha on Wednesday. On Thursday, the bill is being discussed in the Upper House.
In Bihar, members of the Muslim community have actively protested against the bill, expressing concerns over its potential impact on their religious and cultural heritage.
