NEW DELHI:
RJD chief
Lalu Prasad expressed firm backing on Friday for Congress leader
Rahul Gandhi's call for the "immediate arrest" of business tycoon Gautam Adani.
Speaking to journalists in response to Gandhi's previous day's statement regarding US allegations of bribery and fraud against the Adani group, the former Bihar chief minister was unequivocal in his support.
"Rahul Gandhi is right. Adani should be arrested," stated Prasad, a longstanding Congress ally and consistent critic of the BJP, a party reportedly close to Adani.
When questioned about the INDIA coalition's prospects in Jharkhand, where vote counting is scheduled for December 3, the RJD president, who is currently out on bail in several fodder scam cases, maintained his focus on the Adani issue.
The elderly leader, dealing with health issues, responded, "I would like to remain focused on my statement that Adani must be arrested. I am not worried much about a new government (in Jharkhand) where we are already in power."
The Jharkhand elections witnessed direct competition between the INDIA alliance and the BJP-led NDA, which included
Nitish Kumar's JD(U). Kumar, who serves as Bihar's current Chief Minister, remains Prasad's primary political rival.
