Jamshedpur: An 11-year-old boy died by suicide following a minor dispute with his sister, two years younger than him, at their residence in Jamshedpur's Pursudih area on Sunday.
The deceased, identified as Prem Munda, a Class 5 student at a govt primary school in Sundernagar, took the step when his mother, a widow, was away at work.
According to local residents and police reports, the tragedy unfolded after a trivial argument between the siblings during playtime. Prem reportedly rushed to his room, locked himself inside, and used his sister's scarf (dupatta) to hang himself from the ceiling fan.
His sister, alarmed by his sudden reaction, repeatedly knocked on the door, pleading with him to open it. When there was no response, she began screaming for help, prompting neighbors to rush to their assistance. The neighbors forced open the door only to find Prem hanging from the ceiling fan. They immediately rushed him to Jamshedpur Sadar Hospital in Sundernagar, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Faiz Ahamad, officer in-charge of Pursudih police station, said, "The exact trigger behind this extreme step will be determined once we establish the complete chronology of events. Initial investigation based on the sister's statement reveals that the incident stemmed from a petty quarrel during their playtime."
