SRINAGAR: People's Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti expressed profound concern on Friday about how certain "bigots" have transformed Holi festivities into a "source of trepidation" for minorities with the "acquiescence of those in power", suggesting this transpires with the endorsement of authorities.

Her statement follows her previous day's cautionary remarks about the grave ramifications for the nation when fostering discord between Hindu and Muslim communities.

Mehbooba Mufti addressed the concurrent timing of Holi festivities and 'Jumma namaaz' during Ramzan on Friday, responding to the disputes that emerged from this overlap of religious observances.

In a post on X on Friday, Mehbooba said, "Holi for me has always symbolised India's Ganga-Jamuna Tehzeeb. I fondly remember eagerly awaiting the festival & celebrating it with my Hindu friends with immense joy & enthusiasm.

"However some bigots have now converted this celebration into a source of fear for minorities with the approval of those in power. It's time to wake up India. Wishing everyone a Happy Holi!" Mufti said on X.
