NEW DELHI: A heated argument over a pet dog biting a man turned into a violent attack, with the canine's owner severely beating up the victim in Maharashtra's Thane city, police said on Tuesday.
On March 14, a 45-year-old man was bitten by a dog, after which he approached his neighbour, the dog's owner, in Balkum Pada, requesting him to keep his pet under control, according to an official from Kapurbawdi police station.
The situation turned violent when the dog's owner became enraged and allegedly struck the victim with a cricket bat, the official stated.
The victim sustained serious injuries and required hospitalisation for treatment, he added.
Following the victim's statement, the Kapurbawdi police have filed an FIR against the dog owner under section 118(1) (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous means) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The police confirmed that an investigation into the incident is currently underway.
